Thinking about going bare down there but nervous of the process? Do I get naked in front of my esthetician? Should she leave the room? We believe it is important for all women to know the proper waxing etiquette and stay safe and comfortable.

As a full-service medical spa, our expert estheticians know first hand how certain treatments can leave you feeling exposed. None more than Brazilian Waxing.

For any woman but first-time waxers, it’s the little things about a Brazilian or Bikini waxing that can leave you feeling unsure.

The following is what to expect during a waxing appointment at Elegance Sculpting but also at any professional spa:

The process begins with a chat between you and your esthetician where you’ll discuss which type of wax you’re looking to get, your pain tolerance and any other concerns or questions you may have. If it’s your first waxing appointment, let your esthetician know!

Hold your painties! Before you begin undressing, it is professional protocall for your esthetician to leave the room. Although she will need to see everything down there shortly… Allowing you the privacy to remove your underwear and get settled on the waxing bed with a towel. This really does help relax you and normalize the situation. Ensure any spa you book at provides a clean sheet and fresh towels on your waxing bed—this isn’t just etiquette but for your safety.

The esthetician will knock prior to re-entering the room to ensure you are ready to begin. All estheticians should wear disposable gloves as sanitary requirement regardless of which area is being waxed.

Depending on your relationship/comfort levels with your esthetician and their specific technique. They will either remove the towel entirely or just move it to one side. Your esthetician then will determine which type of wax to use as some is better for coarse hair and others are better for fine hair.

Now The Waxing Process.

It is etiquette and your safety for your esthetician to test the warmth of the wax before applying the first strip. You want it to be warm without burning but never cool enough to feel like the wax is resistant to the waxing sheets (this can cause pulling). The warm wax will be spread over small areas using a fresh wooden spatula. Each time your esthetician goes back to the wax pot, she must always use a new spatula. This is such an important thing to remember. If you see otherwise, it is likely the wax pot is contaminated with other clients’ germs.

After the wax is spread over a small area and you esthetician will apply and remove a waxing strip (made of paper/cloth hybrid), in the opposite direction of your hair’s growth. Two key factors for a successful wax: your esthetician should be waiting for the wax to set prior to applying the strip (about 20 seconds). The surrounding skin to be pulled taut to ensure the best clearance and least amount of discomfort.

Only The Best Quality Wax and Waxing Equipment.

At Elegance Sculpting we use quality grade wax and ensure our estheticians have can recognize the hair’s growing pattern so they can pull in opposite direction. A good esthetician can actually train your hair over time to grow a certain direction which reduces the risk of ingrown hairs and leaves hair finer (AKA once you find a good esthetician, try to stick with her so this can happen!). While your esthetician works. They may ask you to help hold the skin taught in certain areas, as well as move into different positions for better angles. Your esthetician only has two hands, helping out means a better, more comfortable wax for you. However, if any ask makes you feel uncomfortable, please let your esthetician know.

After the waxing portion of your appointment, your esthetician may ask if she can go in with tweezers to remove any stays that were too short or coarse to be removed. Your esthetician will provide you with a soothing cream you may apply to the wax area prior to leaving the room. After she leaves the room, you’ll have a chance to observe their work in private to ensure you are happy. If you aren’t happy, don’t get dressed but remain covered with a towel on the table. Your esthetician will knock shortly to see if everything looks good.

Post Treatment Waxing Care is Important.

The area may be slightly red or pink for a first few hours after your wax—this is completely normal. If any redness persists after a day, please call your esthetician to let them know. We recommend booking your next waxing appointment before you leave, about four to six weeks from that date.

We understand how important it is to feel safe and comfortable during any waxing appointment. At Elegance Sculpting we ensure that every client (whether it’s their first or their hundredth wax) is comfortable and receives proper waxing etiquette.
